This project is a significant investment in the digital empowerment of the local communities in Trefechan and Trelewis. By equipping The Green and the Community Centre with advanced technology—such as digital projectors, smart boards, Wi-Fi, speaker systems, and digital notice boards—it aims to foster greater connectivity, communication, and learning opportunities for residents.
A key aspect of the project is sustainability and resourcefulness. By repurposing 10 tablets and 5 laptops from redundant stock at no extra cost, we ensure that technology access remains inclusive and cost-effective, while also minimising waste. As outdated equipment becomes unfit for use, it will be replaced, ensuring a continuous supply of digital tools to meet the community's needs.
This initiative extends beyond technology, recognising the vital role of local volunteers and beneficiaries. Each volunteer will receive a £50 voucher, and each beneficiary a £25 voucher, redeemable at any Merthyr-based store of their choice. This reflects our strong commitment to supporting the foundational economy of Merthyr, empowering residents to reinvest in local businesses and contribute to the region’s economic growth.
Furthermore, £750 will be allocated to market and promote the project, ensuring widespread awareness and participation. Digital ads, leaflets, and other promotional materials will be shared across various local venues, including community facilities, supermarkets, and doctors' surgeries. This inclusive outreach strategy will help ensure that everyone, particularly those in MVH homes, is informed and encouraged to participate.
Lastly, Merthyr Valleys Homes colleagues will receive the necessary training to operate the digital equipment, further embedding knowledge and skills within the community. The use of existing spaces managed or leased by Merthyr Valleys Homes ensures that venue hire costs are minimised, enabling resources to be directed where they are most impactful.
Overall, this project represents a holistic approach to community development, blending digital inclusion, volunteer appreciation, economic growth, and long-term sustainability.
